As an attendee, what is the focus of this event, and what can I expect?
When we set out to throw a craft beer festival in Dallas, our main focus was throwing an event we would personally want to go to. As craft beer fans, we have been to lots of other festivals, and there are good and bad things about each one. At our event, you can expect a fun, boisterous crowd, that appreciates craft beer that’s made with care and attention. You’ll find 100+ booths with several beers at each station for you to sample and enjoy. Often times, the head brewmaster or owner of each brewery will be at the booth to talk about what they do, and how they do it. This event is about enjoying, and learning what craft beer can be.
I’d like to help out, what can I do? Do you need volunteers?
We absolutely need volunteers! The volunteer sign ups for the 2013 event have closed. We will post a link here when we begin signing up next year’s volunteers!
What are the advantages of purchasing VIP tickets?
VIP patrons gain access to the festival 1 hour prior to general admission attendees. VIP attendees will have wristbands, a dedicated entrance until at least 3pm, in-and-out privileges, and entrance to the after party. We will also be pre-scanning all VIP tickets so that you can take advantage of as much of the extra 1 hour as possible to sample all the special beers we will have to offer.
How come every event I go to has ticket “convenience” fees?
We wondered this too, and the truth of the matter is, there’s no reason for it. It’s not “convenient” for anyone except the people collecting ticket admission. No ticket vendor that we interviewed required it, so we’re not adding any to the price of our tickets. The price you see is the price you pay.
Why should I purchase advance tickets to the fest?
Since we’re all about being truthful, a large part of making sure this event is successful assumes we’ll sell some tickets ahead of time to make sure it’s an awesome event. We’re a husband and wife team with normal day jobs who work hard to earn a living, just like the majority of Americans. We’re simply asking for your help so we know how much beer to have on hand, and how to plan everything to make an awesome event.
Will you have any special beers I can’t buy at my local store? Where’s the beer list?
Absolutely! That’s one of our main goals, and we promise to have lots of special beers at our festival that you can’t find on any store shelves, or anywhere in North Texas. While we don’t have a final beer list yet and probably won’t for some time, we already have promises from a number of breweries to provide beers you won’t find elsewhere. You’ll also see plenty of beers you know and love. Whether you’re a beer enthusiast, or new to the world of craftbeer, we promise to have something for everyone.
Why don’t you offer unlimited beer samples with admission?
The state of Texas does not allow “unlimited tasting” events. The maximum amount of beer Texas allows to be sold at any one time is 24 ounces. We don’t like the 24oz limitation at a beer festival as much as you don’t, and that’s why we’re pricing additional sampling cards really low. The day of the festival, you’ll be able to purchase additional (12) 2oz sample cards for only $2! Legally we have to charge you something.
Please make arrangements for all children prior to attending the festival. No one under the age of 21 will be permitted entrance to the event. This include infants. Anyone with a child will not be admitted, no exceptions.
Why are there lines to get in?
Many people will arrive early to the festival, and a line to get in to a beer fest is inevitable. The lines will move quickly if you have your ID and tickets ready. We are doubling the amount of scanners and entry personnel for the 2013 event, and we’ll do our best to minimize the time spent in line. Additionally, VIP tickets will be limited, will have a dedicated entry, the VIP tickets will be pre-scanned for quick entrance, and will allow entry 1 hour prior to general admission tickets.
Will there be any food or non-alcoholic beverages available?
There will be plenty of food trucks available in our “food truck alley” with a wide variety of food options available for purchase. Free water will be available throughout the festival hall. Some vendors may choose to provide free sodas for sampling, and other non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase from our food truck vendors. Some trucks may take cash only. We recommend bringing cash to be on the safe side.
Are there any public transportation options?
Of course, it’s a beer festival! We chose the Fair Park Automobile Building due to the myriad of choices. The DART rail (http://www.dart.org/riding/dartrail.asp) arrives just a few hundred feet from the facility and costs only $4 for a round-trip ticket.
Fair Park has tons of parking available, and they set the price at $10. Please be prepared, and bring cash. We don’t set the prices, and have no control over the charges.
Why are the tasting cups small, and made of plastic?
Please remember, this is a beer tasting event, not a beer drinking event. We encourage you to try many different beers to see all that craftbeer has to offer! Our tasting cups are made of hard clear acrylic, which is odorless and tasteless. Plastic cups ensure a safe event for all patrons.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the North Texas Food Bank (www.ntfb.org). We chose them because hunger is a major problem in North Texas, and 94% of their funds go directly to their mission. They’re highly efficient, and we want to support them!
Who is responsible for throwing the Big Texas Beer Fest?
The event is being thrown by Chad and Nellie Montgomery, two craft beer enthusiasts who reside in Dallas, TX. Please visit our About Us page to find out more.
